Measure hydraulic hose length from clearly marked reference points and record the orientation of both fittings. This guide explains overall length, cut length, end geometry and common measurement mistakes.
Record Finished Assembly Length
Draw the complete assembly and mark measurement reference points with units. Elbow geometry can change the convention; do not assume that hose cut length or a measurement between ferrules is the required overall length.
Identify Bore and Connections
Record hose nominal inside diameter and series separately from the port/thread sizes. Describe End A and End B, including seal, angle and fixed/swivel arrangement.
Show Orientation and Routing
For angled ends, identify the viewing direction and relative orientation. Include relevant routing, movement, clamps, protection and any changes from the original installation.
Questions Before You Enquire
Should I Send Dimensions in inches or Millimetres?
Either can be reviewed when units are stated clearly. Keep each measurement labelled and avoid mixing unlabelled units on the drawing.
Is the Old Hose’s Outside Diameter Enough to Identify Its Size?
No. Outside diameter varies with hose construction and series. Provide the readable marking or identified bore, and keep connector thread dimensions separate.
Can I Estimate a New Hose Length From a Photograph?
Use photographs for context and supply measured dimensions or an identified sample. Perspective and missing reference points make a photograph alone insufficient for a manufacturing length.
